Abstract

Four presentations in a panel entitled “What Workers Want” provided information on current research and offered suggestions and insights for labor organizers and managers as well as researchers. The presentations described developments in the trucking industry since deregulation, decision-making among members of minority groups considering joining employee networks, the development of employee-employer communications using electronic tools, and young engineers’ voice and career expectations in the computer industry. All four studies considered the implications of their findings for union-joining activities, employee voice, and collective action.
