Abstract

One of my favorite economists, Joan Robinson, born 1903, has a quote that I — a card-carrying economist — have always held dear: “The purpose of study-ing economics is … to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.” But read-ing Heather Boushey’s brilliant book Unbound: How Inequality Constricts Our Economy and What We Can Do about It gave me hope (and a lot of evidence) that the field of economics is moving toward a day when that Joan Robinson quote will no longer be so on target.
