Facilitating family-friendly inclusive workplaces

Abstract

In considering ways in which labor unions can promote family-friendly and inclusive workplaces, it can be tempting to focus on the bargaining table. For example, unions can negotiate family-friendly benefits such as paid parental leave and onsite childcare and can bargain for inclusive contract language such as nondiscrimination clauses that include gender identity and expression or the requirement that domestic partners have equal access to health benefits.
