Abstract

Since 2002, Jody Hoffer Gittell has researched and written about the model she calls “relational coordination” (RC). The RC concept stems from Gittell’s view that organizational change doesn’t come primarily from modifying structures, but rather arises from the alteration of organizational members’ patterns of relationships or, as she describes it, a “fundamental transformation of relationships among co-workers, between workers and their customers, and between workers and their leaders.”
