Abstract

The Collective Bargaining Education Project (CBEP) is a social studies instructional program that brings labor relations to life in Los Angeles high school classrooms. Using role-playing and collective bargaining simulations, the program helps students understand conflict in the workplace and how it can be resolved. They also learn about the role of collective bargaining in a democratic society. The CBEP prepares students to actively shape the future regardless of the occupations they select. But students aren’t the only ones who benefit from the program. It also inspires teachers and energizes the labor-management practitioners who assist the students with their lessons.
