Labor Standards in the Supply Chain: The Steep Climb to Sustainability

Abstract
In the global apparel industry, there are increasing expectations from stakeholders, including employees, garment workers, shareholders, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), trade unions, campaign groups, and consumers. These stakeholders expect increased transparency, accountability, and collaboration from companies to address labor rights issues in the corporate supply chain. This article traces the evolving efforts of Gap Inc. to address issues of labor standards in its supply chain. Attention is given that work’s successes, challenges and future direction.
