Abstract

One of the highlights of LERA’s Annual Meeting in 2004 was the Distinguished Panel session on the 2003 agreement between the International Steel Group (ISG) and the United Steelworkers (USWA). This agreement established a groundbreaking labor–management partnership that many credit with saving the American steel industry. The session featured the two principal architects of the partnership, Leo Gerard, president of the USWA, and Wilbur Ross, Chairman and CEO of W.L. Ross & Co. and the owner of ISG. In 2008, LERA’s annual meeting will revisit that agreement and assess the future of the U.S. steel industry.
