In honor of the sixtieth anniversary of the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA), we reflect on the organization’s past and consider its future. From the outset, the Industrial Relations Research Association (IRRA) was notable for its warmth and invaluable as a forum for dialogue among labor-relations practitioners, policy makers, and academics. A key substantive theme throughout the history of IRRA/LERA and sister organizations such as the National Academy of Arbitrators has been the social contract in employment relations. The process and substance of the organization’s past can continue to guide LERA in the future.
