Abstract

Workers’ compensation programs provide cash benefits, medical care, and rehabilitation services to workers disabled by work-related injuries or diseases. Some view such programs as critical strands in the safety net for workers, while others argue that the programs’ costs corrode business competitiveness. This article sets aside the melodramatics and provides a judicious introduction to workers’ compensation history and current issues.
